Producer sample breakdown
No I.D. Samples
Chicago, IL -- Active 1992-present -- Born Ernest Dion Wilson
No I.D. is Kanye West's mentor and one of the most influential producers in Chicago hip-hop. He taught Kanye how to sample and is widely credited with establishing the soul-flip aesthetic that defined Kanye's early career. He later produced Jay-Z's 4:44 (2017), one of the most sample-rich albums of the 2010s.
No I.D. is a purist -- he believes a sample should be recognizable and carry emotional weight. He favors soul and jazz, rarely distorts or pitches sources beyond subtlety, and builds beats that feel reverent toward the original material.
