FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short, direct answers. If something is missing, send it via the Feedback pill in the bottom-right and we'll add it.
Is Goat Music free?
Yes. Goat Music’s core rating and social tools are free today. Contextual or affiliate placements may appear and are labelled. A possible Pro tier is being researched, with no public launch date.
How is Goat Music different from Last.fm or Rate Your Music?
Last.fm is a scrobble graph; Goat Music is a curation surface. Reviews have their own URL with OG cards. Profiles read like magazine pages, not stat sheets. Goat combines activity from people you follow with clearly labelled ranked and editorial discovery. RYM is a database with reviews layered on top; Goat Music starts from the album-as-statement.
Do I need a Spotify account?
No. Spotify sign-in is not currently open to new public accounts. Use one of the options shown on the sign-in page, then search and rate without linking Spotify.
Are you affiliated with Letterboxd?
No. Goat Music is an independent project. The Letterboxd-for-music framing is a positioning device because Letterboxd is the canonical example of a thoughtful curation product.
How do ratings work?
You rate albums on a 1–100 scale. The slider has decade chips so you can quickly anchor "this is in the high 80s" without dragging. Each rating can carry a written review with its own headline + permalink.
Can I make my profile private?
Yes. Account settings has a public/private toggle. Private profiles are excluded from the homepage activity strip, search, and sitemap — outsiders see a "this profile is private" splash.
Where do my reviews live?
Each review with a body has its own URL: goatmusic.me/@yourname/review/<UPC>. These are public on public profiles, share with a magazine-card OG preview, and accept reactions + threaded replies.
Do you store my listening history?
Goat stores the ratings and reviews you add. Currently supported imports can add listening-derived data only when you explicitly run them. Spotify playback and catalog links remain available for eligible existing connections, but Spotify listening-history import and history-based personalization are paused during provider-policy review. The privacy policy at /privacy has the full breakdown.
How is discovery ordered?
Goat uses several clearly named modes, including activity from people you follow, trending and acclaimed views, editorial charts, and personalised suggestions after enough ratings. Your board and your own album scores are always chosen by you.
How do I report a problem or send feedback?
Use the floating Feedback pill in the bottom-right of every non-admin page. We read every submission. Anonymous OK.
