Large Professor is a pioneering Queensbridge producer who shaped the sound of early 1990s hip-hop, working with Nas, Rakim, and Eric B. He produced key tracks on Nas's Illmatic and is known for heavily jazz-influenced digging.
Large Professor builds from long jazz loops -- often a full 8-bar phrase -- and lays heavy, slightly swinging drums over them. He is drawn to the complexity of jazz harmony in a way that anticipates J Dilla's approach.
