Hit-Boy is the producer behind Kanye West and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne (2011) and Nas's King's Disease trilogy. He straddles the line between original composition and sampling, often building beats from original synthesizer work that captures the warmth and texture of sampled soul without actually sampling.
Hit-Boy samples selectively, typically using soul records to add emotional depth to a track that is otherwise built from his own keyboard work. He also interpolates rather than samples where clearance is difficult.
